SDH-R Certifications and Food-Safety Compliance: CE, FDA and UL
What CE, FDA compliant and UL listed actually mean on the SDH-R rotary cup filling machine, how its 304 stainless steel, CIP option and tool-free strip-down support your food-safety plan, and which documents to ask for.
The SDH-R certifications are CE marking, FDA-compliant food-contact materials and UL listing. CE covers EU conformity for machinery, FDA compliance covers the materials that touch food (FDA does not certify machines), and UL listing covers North American electrical safety. The SDH-R is built from food-grade 304 stainless steel with an optional CIP system and tool-free strip-down, supporting your HACCP or FSMA plan, which remains the producer's responsibility.

SDH-R Certifications at a Glance: CE, FDA Compliant and UL Listed
The SDH-R certifications are three marks that answer three different buyer questions. CE marking covers EU conformity for machinery, FDA-compliant materials cover what touches your food, and UL listing covers electrical safety in North America. They describe the machine, not your plant, so your site's food-safety program remains yours.
The SDH-R is our automatic rotary cup filling, sealing and lidding machine, built in Calgary, Alberta. Compliance documentation is provided with the machine, and specifics for your configuration are confirmed with our team before order.
What each SDH-R mark covers
| Mark | What it tells you | What it does not tell you |
|---|---|---|
| CE | The manufacturer declares conformity with the EU legislation that applies | That the machine was made in Europe, or that your plant is approved |
| FDA compliant | Food-contact materials suit food use under FDA rules | That FDA certified or approved the machine; it does not do this |
| UL listed | The product was evaluated to North American electrical safety standards | Anything about hygiene, sealing performance or food safety |
CE Certified Filling Machine: What the Mark Means for You
CE marking is the manufacturer's declaration that a product meets the EU requirements that apply to it. For most machinery, the manufacturer runs the conformity assessment, compiles a technical file and signs an EU Declaration of Conformity; notified-body involvement applies only to specific high-risk categories. It is a documented declaration, not a regulator's stamp.
For a packaging machine, CE typically addresses guarding, emergency stops, control-circuit safety and electromagnetic compatibility, not product hygiene. Ask for the Declaration of Conformity, which names the directives and standards applied. EU machinery rules move to Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 from January 20, 2027, so check which text it cites.
FDA Compliant Filling Machine: Food-Contact Materials Explained
FDA regulates food-contact substances and the food a plant produces. It does not certify, approve or register filling machines, so we never call the SDH-R FDA certified or approved. FDA compliant means its food-contact materials are intended for food use under FDA's framework, described on the agency's food contact substances page.
Ask for a material declaration covering every product-contact part, including filler bodies, nozzles, valves and elastomer seals, for your exact configuration. Cups and roll film come from your packaging supplier, who should provide their own compliance statement.
UL Listed Packaging Machine: Electrical Safety
UL is a nationally recognized testing laboratory. A UL listed packaging machine has been evaluated against published electrical safety standards, which plant electricians and inspection authorities look for at commissioning. It addresses shock and fire risk, not hygiene or food safety. Ask what exactly is listed, and confirm with us that it satisfies your local or Canadian provincial inspection.

Request a quoteHygienic Design: 304 Stainless Steel, CIP and Tool-Free Strip-Down
Certifications set a floor; sanitation design is what your crew lives with every shift. The SDH-R uses food-grade 304 stainless steel, an optional CIP (clean-in-place) system and tool-free strip-down.
- Non-porous 304 stainless steel construction that cleans readily.
- Tool-free strip-down for manual cleaning and inspection of product-contact parts.
- Tamper-evident membrane seal: roll film is heat sealed to the cup, and a breached seal is visible.
- Cut-off and suck-back (drip-free) nozzles that keep product off the cup flange, a common cause of seal failure.
One caution: 304 stainless is not immune to chlorides, so confirm sanitizer chemistry, concentration and contact time.
Food Safety Compliance for a Filling Machine: HACCP, FSMA, SFCR, BRCGS and SQF
A machine cannot be HACCP, BRCGS or SQF certified; those apply to a producer's site and management system. The SDH-R is designed to support plants operating under them, while you remain responsible for your hazard analysis, preventive controls, validation and records.
- Sanitation controls under FSMA Preventive Controls (21 CFR Part 117) and a CFIA preventive control plan under SFCR: cleanable stainless steel, optional CIP, hand-removable parts.
- Net-content control: servo-driven filling at ±0.5% accuracy, with an optional weight checker and feedback loop.
- Oxygen control: optional nitrogen flushing reduces residual oxygen to 0.3-0.4%, a parameter you can monitor in your own plan.
- Consistency and traceability: PLC control with HMI recipe storage and diagnostic alerts, plus optional lot and date coding.
- BRCGS and SQF audits review your sanitation, maintenance, allergen and foreign-body procedures; cleanable design makes them easier to write and verify.
A candid fit note: the SDH-R fills fresh, refrigerated cups at a pumpable temperature, optionally with MAP nitrogen flushing. Aseptic and retort processes are outside its design.
Allergen Changeover and Sanitation Between Dip Products
Multi-SKU plants run allergens side by side: sesame in hummus and tahini, tree nuts in pesto and nut butters, milk in tzatziki and cream cheese. Sesame became the ninth major US allergen on January 1, 2023 (FASTER Act); see our labeling guide.
SKU changeover takes under 15 minutes, but treat that as changeover time only. A full allergen clean takes longer, and the procedure, validation and verification (visual inspection, ATP or allergen swab testing) belong in your allergen control plan. A typical sequence to adapt:
- Run the allergen-containing product last where your plan allows.
- Empty and flush the product path; run CIP if fitted.
- Strip down product-contact parts by hand and wash them off the machine.
- Inspect, reassemble, sanitize and verify, then record the result before the next SKU.
SDH-R Certifications and Regulations by Market
We serve producers in the USA, Canada, UK, EU, Middle East, Australia and New Zealand (see our serving areas). The table is orientation, not legal advice; your regulator has the final word.

Certifications & Compliance — Frequently Asked Questions
The SDH-R carries CE marking: the manufacturer's declaration that the machine conforms to the EU legislation that applies to it. For most machinery the manufacturer performs the conformity assessment and signs an EU Declaration of Conformity. We provide compliance documentation with the machine and confirm details for your configuration and market before order.
No filling machine is FDA approved or certified, because FDA does not certify equipment. The SDH-R is FDA compliant: its food-contact materials are intended for food use under FDA's framework, and it is built from food-grade 304 stainless steel. Your plant's obligations fall under FSMA Preventive Controls, 21 CFR Part 117.
UL listed means UL evaluated the product against North American electrical safety standards and it may carry the listing mark. It covers shock and fire hazards in the electrical system, not hygiene or food safety. We confirm the listing scope, and whether it satisfies your local or Canadian provincial inspection, before you order.
No. BRCGS, SQF and HACCP-based certifications are awarded to a producer's site and management system, not to machines. The SDH-R is designed to support plants operating under them, with cleanable 304 stainless steel, optional CIP, tool-free strip-down, a tamper-evident seal and ±0.5% fill accuracy. Your hazard analysis, validation and records remain your responsibility.
SKU changeover on the SDH-R takes under 15 minutes, but a full allergen clean takes longer. Product-contact parts strip down without tools and an optional CIP system is available. Your allergen control plan sets the cleaning procedure, verification and run order. Sesame has been a major US allergen since January 1, 2023, so tahini-based dips need an explicit plan.
We serve producers in all three, and requirements differ. Great Britain applies assimilated versions of the EU hygiene and food-contact rules, Australia uses the FSANZ Food Standards Code, and New Zealand uses the Food Act 2014. We confirm machine marking and documentation for your destination before order, so name your market when you request a quote.
No. The SDH-R is a rotary cup filling machine for fresh, refrigerated products filled at a pumpable temperature, not an aseptic or retort system. Optional nitrogen MAP flushing extends typical refrigerated shelf life from roughly 7-10 days to 30-45+ days, depending on the product. Fill temperature and unusual particulates are confirmed with our engineering team before quoting.
